Project reflection
Brave New World Project Reflection
In the BNW project, I felt that the biggest challenge to me was writing a good essay. The reason that I felt the writing was so hard was because I was looking to perfect my writing as much as I possibly could to make it my best. Some of my hardest experiences while writing were finding good writing points and creating an overall flawless writing piece to the best of my abilities. Through my writing experiences with Brave New World, I felt that I did my best to write a good essay, and as a result grew as a writer. I was very very pleased with how my final exhibition went and what I accomplished through reading the book.
While I did this project, I feel that I grew in many ways. When I started the project, I did not think that I was the greatest at writing, but now I feel more confident in my writing abilities and think that I have more of a head start to succeed next year as a creative writer. I believe that I also improved at my information location skills. I have improved at this because when I did this project, I was much more inclined and able to find good information that I could use to my advantage and put it into my writing piece in a much more flawless way. Overall, I would say that I have improved as a student writer through the book, and I am ready to use my skills to succeed into the future.
When I return to Animas next year as a sophomore, I want to remember how much I have improved. In the beginning of freshman year, I did not do my best at everything and I needed room for lots of improvement, But I worked hard at all of my subjects, and eventually became an overall A average student. I feel that remembering how I pushed myself to do my best in Freshman year will push me to be an A student again next year. I am hoping that next year, Animas will give me just as good of an experience next year as I have had throughout this year.
In my Brave New World project, I am most proud of how much my writing has improved. When I started writing my BNW paper, I was not doing my absolute best; but after I started to improve and get into gear, I had a piece of writing that I could be proud of. I feel that I have grown a lot in my writing from the beginning of the semester when I wrote my model United Nations North Korea paper, to now with my Brave New World project paper.
Overall, I am happy that I got to come to Animas High school and experience what it is like to do my best in all of my schoolwork. I am very excited to come back here and do my best next year just as I have done now.

media influenceAfter reading the book Brave New World, each student wrote their own essay or story about something that they liked in BNW. I wrote my essay about how the free media influences us in our everday lives. What I found, is that our media influences us to make purchases and political decisions daily if watched enough. This essay shows my improvement in writing and my understanding for deaper reading.

Our Media and its Influence
In our society, the many forms of media that we use affect almost all aspects of our lives. After I read the book “Brave New World”, I was intrigued at how the storyline of the book was able to control its people by using simple media, and I wanted to see if this trend existed in our world. I found that our world is very connected to what our media says and does and that much of what we say and do is in fact a bi-product of what we see through the media. The media influences us as Americans through changing and affecting our political ideas, Influencing what products we purchase, and effecting our overall learning process. The polarization of political ideology in American televised media has affected people's political basis and decision making since its creation. This form of ideology can be seen in many modern media channels, most commonly between the Democratic and Republican Parties of America. The two representing Medias of these parties include the FOX news network for the Conservatives and the CNBC news network for the Liberals(FOX, CNBC).For viewers, this means that they will only get one side of the story and possibly a bias point of view on important issues. In my opinion, I believe that one sided arguments in the media may result in people having inconclusive points of view on issues and possibly presenting invalid facts in an argument. Independent channels with one-sided political views keep their viewers watching by using charismatic and powerful political speakers to draw attention to themselves. These speakers have strong personal powers to be able to motivate and direct people into believing their ideals and having a personal connection or affiliation to the speaker(Commercial Research). A good real world example of this is Rush Limbaugh who represents many common republican ideals on the FOX news network(FOX). Having a strong voice to represent their ideas only makes the channel stronger as a whole. When we see growth through a channel, the influence of what it is trying to say to us becomes much stronger. Finally, when a broadcast has strong charisma, and is able to influence a large amount of people strongly, the viewers will stop believing or no longer support the ideas or influence of other networks. When this trend occurs, there becomes somewhat of a political isolation in people that makes their beliefs in political subjects stronger in their views until they are fully dedicated to only one way of thinking(Media Influence). Through the television, we can clearly see that news channels and political debates programs have a solid effect on how we register our political ideals. From narrowing the facts and using model speakers, it is obvious that the networks have a large amount of control in how we make our political decisions. One of the most influential forms of media in our lives are commercials. Commercials are essentially advertisements that companies pay to have placed in the free time in the spacing between shows. Commercials are effective because they are broadcast heavily every day. They are a constant bombardment of ads for things that are typically unneeded in our daily lives. However, because of the amount of them that we are exposed to, a psychological bandwagon effect forms that makes us want to purchase the goods and products being shown. It is a simple aspect of human nature; if we see that someone has something nice, we will want to have it or something better (Media Influence). This is why companies like McDonalds spend over ¾ of a billion dollars each year just on advertising(McDonalds). Commercials show the latest and greatest in all fields of technology, but ultimately for the consumer, it comes down to price. Price is the most effective part of a commercials drive, and what influences most peoples purchase. For example, if you walk into a store and there is a Mac computer for eight hundred dollars with 500 gigabytes of hard drive space, and next to it there is a Windows computer of the same power for only three hundred and ninety nine dollars, which would you chose? There are obvious quality differences between the products, but the thrifty consumer looks at the price first. Through the appeal of cheap goods and the bandwagon effect, commercials are very effective at making people want to buy goods and services from brand name companies. Our choice on what we consume is drastically affected by commercials which have been proven to be a major factor in what we buy and where companies get their revenue. The internet is the largest and most used form of media in the entire world. It seems anymore that whenever we cannot find the answer to something, we tell people to ‘go Google it’. With over 77% of America using the internet, it is the most widely used form of media in the country(Internet Stats). What makes up most of the internet is social media. Social media sites like Facebook are influential because millions of people are able to share and take information. With the speed to contact someone in China from the United States in just seconds, we are able to do things better, quicker and more organized. The social media is so powerful, that it made the Arab Spring revolution in Egypt last year a reality(Wiki). However, the internet's most powerful effect lies in the rapid access of new information. what used to take days for us to read out of a book twenty years ago, can now be accessed in digital media within minutes(Internet Stats). With this rapid access of new information, we are able to shape our personal opinions accurately and influence others with our ideas rapidly faster than was ever conceivable by our society(Media Influence). In addition to just being able to access information, we are able to access data banks from all over the world. Because the internet is a world wide web of information, the limits to what we can do are almost limitless. The potential information and influence that the internet offers us is unparalleled by none other. In our ever changing world, the internet is one of the most important tools of media to continue to drive us deep into the future. Mass media has had a great influence in shaping and changing the world around us into what we see today. The media has helped us overcome many serious problems that we have faced while excelling us into the future; but at the same time, harmful negative societal influence have been able to gain a foothold through media. With the media, we have been able to share and gain knowledge faster than ever possible before which has allowed us to form our own opinions with a full view from all points. The media is a world full of good and bad influence. We should not avoid media just to avoid negative influence, but rather just find a critical eye for media to see the articles for what they are. I Believe that the media will continue to be a powerful factor in how we view and function in society for many years to come. |
BRAVE NEW WORLD PROJECTIn Humanities, we read the book Brave New World to learn a concept of how distopia books work. What we each found in the book was a higher respect for good writing and an idea for a project that we each wanted to do. In the end of the book, the outsider of the society suffered such a cultural indifference, that he pushed himself into commiting suicide. The book was a great reflection to where our society might go and has been as far as technology is at. Brave New World is a book that I personally recommend.

Model UN project
![Picture](/uploads/1/4/8/4/14843682/4134739.jpg)
The Model United Nations Project was a four month project that we did to learn about how the United Nations worked. We were given real world topics that the United Nations deals with everyday and had to find solutions to them. Over weeks, we would gather information and develop a resolution and speech to present to out peers to see and critique at conference. The Model United Nations also gave us a chance to learn specific details about each one of our countries and use them in our resolutions. Overall the model United Nations was a great experience for our education and I was happy to be a playing part in it.

Model UN Project Reflection
If I were to give advice to a new student that was starting this project, I
would recommend that they do their best on all work that is completed in the
Project and to practice, practice and practice some more on all speeches and
public speaking so that they would be of optimal quality when they were ready
to use them.
I believe that the habit of heart and mind that I used the most in this
project was Evidence. I believe that evidence was the HOHAM that I used the
most because I had to gather much evidence on what my country's perspective was
in the world on the issues that we discussed so that I could give accurate
statements on the subjects I was talking about.
If
I could have done the project differently, I would have had both Humanities do
the project. I would have done this so that all students would have got the same
Humanities education and so that more countries could have been in the model UN
to make some of the votes and issues more accurate to the situations so that
we could have got a world based opinion.
I
believe that the most interesting speech that was said last night was by
Marianne. I was very impressed by the content and fluxuation that she gave
during her speech; However, it did run overtime and I wish that I could have
heard it all.

Greek Tragedy Project
The Greek tragedy project was made in Humanities as a way of understanding social issues and learning how to write a play. The project was spread over a period of about one month and consisted of over an hour of film. Our Story was about an Oil investor who later dies from his mistakes and has to face the consequences. I hope you enjoy my story that I worked endless

1. Now that I am finished with
the project, I believe that it was very similar to the way that I did work
before I started the project. I had always done project based work ever since
middle school when I did the western unite and the revolution of time theory.
However, It was also very different because I have never done a project worth so
many points at once.
2.
On my next project, I will need to work on primary example more than anything. I
have found myself getting ahead of what I have to do in order to stay on topic.
this is my biggest future improvement for myself.
3.
I am most proud of my mask because it reflects myself. This is the first time I
have ever got a chance to express myself in this manner and I was very pleased
with the outcome.
4.
‘We are all who we choose to be.’ This line was important to me because it gives
a feeling of making your own destin. we are who we are and that is in all truth
what really matters.
5.
I want to remember my social identity more than anything when I am finished with
this project.

mask Essay
Social
Class and the People who live in it
Sociologists
have been searching for the answers of what class is almost since clas was
invented. Why has society divided us up into these few sections created by our
society and what makes
it
so special to be higher up in this so called ‘chain of command’. I was on a
mission to find the answers of how my class had influenced my identity. I spent
much of my time discovering how my class affected my socialization, and now I
have present it through this essay.
My
goal was simple; find my identity through the social class I live in. I used
much information from the past to figure out how the present works. Since 1932
when president Roosevelt introduced social security, A new form of class came
along with it. It was called the American class system and it was developed to
determine who was rich or poor for logistics in the united states because of the
great depression,”The U.S. Department of Records and State Census Bureau”. But
there was one more class that was totally unique to our system; It was called
the middle-class and it represented the social standard. Today, most Americans
across the social spektrum Live in the middle-class. The middle-class is where
most Americans live and it happened to be where I live too. I relate relate with
anyone that I know in my class, but I wanted to know more. What application did
this have to my social identity? I needed to find the application of class on
people so I would continue my study.
Theoretically,
If you walk into a mall, you would be likely to talk to someone that you relate
with or have more commonalities with. That person probably would have come from
a similar situation as yourself, or the same class as you. I have found through
my study of Sociology that the way you grow up, determines who you socialize
with as an adult. A lot of how You act as an adult is caused by how your parents
acted when you were a child. Your parents acted the way they did because of a
number of variables. They may be mad at the government because they did not make
enough money. They may have liked a certain politician or political party
because of their Ideals. You may not know it, but your guardians thoughts
resonate off of them and soak into you and may determine why you act the way you
do. I believe that the way you act as an adult determines what kind of people
you like or who you Socialize with more often. My theory is that our environment
has a lot to do with our Socialization. Who you Socialize with has a lot to do
with your class and what kind of an environment you live in.
I
had found out through the study of sociology that more than just social
environment or income could affect class. People have biases towards all forms
of other people for many reasons. For example, a police officer may be racist
towards a certain Individual, he may arrest that individual and then that
individual will get in trouble and be identified someone who creates trouble for
others. Another example would be a woman walks into a grocery store in New York
and asks for a Job. The Manager may not give Her the Job because he is sexest
against that woman and thinks She will slake off instead of Work. This bias is a
definite day to day possibility for some people. I have had this happen to me.
I have been told by random people I appear to be lazy because I am a Teenager;
even though I work hard all of the time on things like Homework, I am still
discriminated against. When people are discriminated against, they cannot get
jobs and when people can’t get jobs, they sink into Lower-Class.
Combining
all of the knowledge that I have learned about class, I have found my social
identity. Through my social mask, I found what reflects my social identity.
Reflective eyes represents my openness to learning; Colorful under eyes
represents my past, present and future; a green stripe represents my class and
its history of existence: and last of all, two orange stripes represents my
eagerness to advance into what my future holds with a yellow star of promise.
Class helped me find my identity through example and practice of the past. Using
this knowledge, I was able to connect the dots and find how I fit into society.
I found that I live in a close social norm with many other people in Americas
Society. I Have the understanding of where I am and know that it is how I
connect to society. Each individual fits into society in their own way, and I
knew that I was making my contribution by just being myself.
I
have led out my journey of study through class and social norms showing how
society functions in accordance with our class and social norms. Some people may
find that it shows the Masks we wear or the Stigmas and Stereotypes we place and
others find it to be a beautiful and delicate balancing act showing how truly
fragile the system of class really is. I leave my essay with This simple
statement; no matter what class you belong to, your social identity will be your
true face, it my matter to some people to be higher up in class and to others it
may not but the one thing that matters to almost everyone is how society looks
at them and what their own future picture is. What ‘s your Identity?
